"I will ease your mind"

Bridge Over troubled Waters is one of my many favorite Simon and Garfinkel songs. The melody is great but I have always been captivated by several particular lyrics. "I will ease your mind" is one of those captivating verses. I find it to be a thought provoking expression given the context of the song. "I will ease your mind," is not a promise to fix, solve, or ease the person's suffering. It is, in my opinion, something much more gentler, something more profound. I interpret to ease a mind as a willingness to enter another's inner world so as to bring calm where there is turmoil. To me this phrase reflects deep care as opposed to some abstract sense of duty. It's a  reflection of Epicurus who believed philosophy exists to heal the mind's disturbances. The verse seems to resonate Buddhist principle of compassion. And it recalls the ancient Greek belief that self-giving love offers peace as its ultimate gift. To me, "i will ease your mind" is a pledge and willingness to lay myself down as a bridge, not just to carry someone across, but more importantly , to quiet the turbulent water within that person. "I will ease your mind " is a philosophy of tenderness.
